L01 Report Of Visual Promos

Promotional Video

This video is a promotional video for Archy Marhall's new album 'A NEW PLACE 2 DROWN' this video is a short cut video of what the artist has been unto white recording the video, who helped and exactly why he has made the video. This promotional video is made for people to recognise the album before it is released so that they are aware when it is out, this will help bring the artist money in as he has promoted it to the target audience before releasing the album and book.
This video creates excitement for the release of this project as Archy uses his artwork through it and a sniper of a song off the album, this gives the target audience a sneak peak into what they get from purchasing the album or book. Archy using his artwork also promotes the book as the book is for his artwork and photographs he has created, this also bring more money in for the book as well as the album.
The video also engages the target audience because it shows Archy and his friends messing about, having fun and what they are unto everyday in-between creating music and artwork, this helps engage the target audience (fans) because they will be interested on what the artist is uptown now he is becoming famous.
Archy has decided to promote his video on youtube which is a platform used by a mass audience, which means it will also be the best place to be promoted and to get out to audiences in time for its release.
The target audience for this video is 16-25+ as Archy and his friends are ages 16-25 and their music tries to aim at people in the same situations with a similar life. Production techniques used in this promotional video are tension building, they use a short clip off one of the songs from the new album in the video and the artwork they create all the way through the video. This video is structured to play out a short story on Archy's life/time recording the album 'ANP2D' from the start Archy is reading a poem from his book and then it goes onto his mother talking about them as kids and what she does to give and insight onto their life, then towards the end it shows him having a good time with his friends.

Promotional Video Game Trailer

This is a promotional video game trailer 'Forza Horizon 4' in this trailer Forza give in game 4K quality gameplay, the purpose for this trailer is to promote the new car racing game to the target audience so that they can spread out the message to everyone in time for the release date, in doing this Forza will attract a mass audience as they have enough money to advertise it on television, youtube, public transport and many more. Advertising this product before the release date will also help as they have shown teasers of the game play, this makes the target audience want to see more and the only way they can do that is by purchasing the product bringing in Forza more and more money in a shorter amount of time through the advertisements they have brought out many weeks before.
This video creates excitement for the target audience as Forza show the different content involved E.G. rally cars in the snow, supercars in Italy, classic cars on the streets etc. By doing this Forza give the target audience a tease on what is involved and also makes them want to see more and even play it, this create great excitement and tension for the release date.
This video game trailer engages the target audience by showing the car racing game lovers actual in game footage of all the different sceneries and cars racing instead of it just being one car with only one scenery and being the same all the way through, showing a range also helps engage the audience for the car lovers that only like specific cars e.g. supercar fans, rally car fans, nascar fans etc so that they aren't defined for just one style of car.

                                             Music Video

This music video is by the artist the goes under the name Joji, the purpose this music video is to promote Joji's new album and also to entertain the audience. This music video can be accessed on youtube via tablets, laptops, mobile phones and computers. This makes the video very easily accessible for the fans to view on the go whenever they would like to.
This video creates excitement for the target audience by having Joji laying down with naked girls dancing on him while being covered in money, this creates excitement for the men as they will look towards the women as sexual objects seen as Joji has created the story line of living life like a pimp. This video also creates excitement as the fans get to see how Joji lives through short clips of him during his tour and what he gets unto in life.
This video engages the audience as the men get to see naked women all the way through the video, this creates male gaze which makes the men look to women as sexual objects and nothing more, However Joji does not create a good role model for the younger audience members by doing this, it will bring them up to look at women as no more than objects belonging to men.
The target audience for this video should be 18+ as they have explicit images of naked women, this should not be seen by any younger as this is what the regulatory bodies have made age ratings for in other videos, however the video is very easily accessible for anybody and won't hold children back from viewing this content.

Music Video

This is a music video by the artist Mac Demarco, the purpose of this music video is to promote the song and the new album it is featured on, but the main purpose is to show the fans what Mac Demarco's kind of woman actually is and to show the fans its fine to dress however you want and to be yourself as he is dressed as a woman with make up and lipstick on.
This video creates excitement for the audience because Mac was a very quiet artist at this point in 2013 that no one really knew much about, so the audience get to see Mac in a fast paced video with so much to look at after him going quiet for so long.
This video engages the audience by showing Mac dressed as a woman and also running around naked towards the end, this gives the audience humorous content while also being shown a story inside the video of a message being sent out that men don't have to be represented as masculine anymore and that they should be comfortable with who they are as long as they are happy with themselves it doesn't matter what others think.
The target audience for this video is 14+ as this is the age that teenagers start to find their own likings and preferences on living life for themselves, also the clothes they wear and their appearance is varied on how they see life and the hobbies/interests they have, so Mac can target these people to tell them it is okay to be different and no one else matters because they aren't you and you don't have to make other people happy through your own appearance.

Film Trailer

This is the film trailer of 'Mid90s' directed by Jonah Hill, this trailer shows clips from the movie he has directed on the skateboarding scene through out the 90s. The trailer is a structured as the film goes along bringing all the characters slowly.
This trailer uses fast pasted cuts to bring in characters, emotions and locations through out the films, this creates suspense and teasers of different scenes in the film to engage the audience to viewing the trailer till the end. The music played through out this film trailer is the Wu-Tang Clan, these are a thuggish hip-hop styled group, this will accompany the thuggish acts the skaters are committing through out this film and connotes these skaters are young hooligans and don't tend to behave themselves.
This film trailers target audience is mainly males that have a more masculine side as these skaters are a group of different emotions and personalities such as misbehaviour, anger, fighting and not really caring about how they treat others. This makes the trailer aimed at males as stereotypically these are the actions of masculinity instead of being aimed at females that behave and always care about how their actions act upon others in the long run.
This video has made it very teasing for the audience as they play clips right from the start of the film to the very end including violence, happiness, anger and skateboarding, this makes it very appealing to the target audience but also very teasing as if they would want to view the whole film they would have to buy the movie or go to the cinema, bringing the company a higher income which is what they are aiming for in this whole trailer, the point of the trailer being to bring in an income but also to advertise the film in time for its release so that the target audience are ware of the whole project crated by Jonah Hill.
The trailer also uses techniques of close ups on the main characters/actors to show the target audience who the main characters/actors are and who they should look out for when watching the movie as these are the people the movie is built around and also more relevant if they are shown bigger/more masculine than the other cast members throughout the trailer.

L06 Essay

Image result for spider man dvd
This is my first product 'Spider-Man' and is the first 'Spider-Man' film to be released, the story of a spider that bites a man and he turns into a human with all spider capabilities of creating webs and climbing walls etc. The target audience for this will be kids to adults as spider-man were originally comics years before the film.

The negative effects of spider-man is that he uses violence to solve trouble and to save the city, there are antagonists through-out this movie and spider-man will fight them to the point they draw blood and get really gory, this isn't the best scene for kids as they will see spider-man as a role model because he is a superhero and all kids look unto them, they will take in spider-mans actions and will also start to use violence if they are at a very young age because they know no better. In a scene of spider-man Peter has a fight with a bully that has being giving him bother for a while and he resolves in acting violent back with him where as he could've walked off and left it, kids seeing this that might be getting trouble at school will see this as a way of getting bucket the bully and fight him to end it where as this is the worst way possible.

The positive effects of 'Spider-Man' is that stopping crime and not being a criminal is good as spider-man stops almost all the criminals in their tracks and he saves the city, this will show the children that spider-man doesn't like criminals and will make them think twice before behaving badly, it will also show them the trouble they can get into when spider-man hands them into the police and the consequences of committing crimes when they get arrested.

Moral Panics is fear spread by a large amount of audience members in the media and threatens the mind and being of the media. This is a theory that raises concern for the audience, so the scene in spider-man in which Peter gets into a fight to get the bully to leave him alone could scare the parents of the younger children viewers causing them to think if their children ever had trouble in school they will start getting into fights instead of telling someone or walking away all because they have seen spider-man fight him in the short movie scene.

Personally I do think films can have negative effects/impacts on younger audiences as children have many roll models and look up towards many superhero's because of the imagination every child has growing up, violent scenes and fighting will probably have the main impact on children as they will see that this is what their roll models are doing in life and will also start to think if they fight they will be just like them.

Active audiences theory. This can be used in a positive way for the audiences as media can use their products as escapism for the audience to escape their day to day lives in the normal world and can distractions into the companies products in a positive way also bringing in money from the products they are selling. The characters and actors in spider-man are good models for kids to look up to as spider-man himself uses his super powers in a positive way to stop violence and save his city from the antagonists and villains.

Personally I think media can have both positive and negative effects on the audiences all depending on the mindset and the product released to them, E.G. if a violent game was released to someone that is angry and violent the product could cause more aggression and they could be influenced into doing things they see on the game, a positive example being if a film was released to someone that is loving and they see someone in a film doing a good deed to someone they could be influenced in doing that swell it just depends on how it meets the audiences eye and how they see things for themselves.

Exam Practice Questions - UNIT 1

Practice Question 1 - State what the acronym 'PAMCO' stands for.

Publishers Audience Measurement Company

Practice Question 2 - Explain what the role of the Pamco is.

PAMCO help companies reach out to audiences with advertisements on all different platforms that these audience members access day to day.

Practice Question 3 - October 2015 PAMCO reported that 944,900 women visit the Daily Mail app from a mobile or tablet every month. How might this information help the Daily Mail plan its advertising strategy?

This will help as they have seen how many women have access to a mobile phone and will give them more of an idea on how the advertisements will be seen when advertising for the female audience and how it will reach out to them.

SECTION B

Practice Question 1 - State the name of a cross-media company.

Sony Pictures

Practice Question 2 - Explain two ways that products are advertised to audiences in the digital age. Use examples to support your answer.

On social media as this is what most of the younger audiences will use on a day to day basis and will more than likely see if it were to be used to advertise something, an example being advertisements before watching a video on youtube or facebook as they will see this before watching the video and will have their ees locked on the screen.

Another way that that advertisments are advertised to the digital age is that they use advertismenets on music apps such as soundcloud and the basic spotify, this is between every couple of songs and they advertise things each individual listener is looking at on the internet as they are linked together E.G. a listener is looking at colleges and sixth forms they will advertise close colleges and sixths forms that they could be interested in and also even universities for future education in life after college and sixth forms.

Practice Question 3 - Explain how the company you identified in the previous question uses synergy. Use examples to support your answer.

Most advertisements on soundcloud or spotify still play music in the background so that it isn't a plain advert and will make the listeners tune in, the speaker also sounds really engaged and motivated to advertise whatever company they are working for rather than being laid back and talking to the listeners normally as this could create bordem and wont grab their attention.

Practice Question 4 - Think of a main media sector you have studied. Make sure you discuss the key regulator for the sector and gice examples of products for extra marks
Discuss the need for media regulation in a media industry you have studied

One of the main media sectors i have studied is Film and the main key regulator for Film would be BBFC and these regulate age ratings for films due to content involved such as violence and strong language so that younger children won't be able to see the film. The need for BBFC is so that if kids were to watch these violent and aggressive films they would pick up on doing what some of the actors are doing such as swearing, fighting and other behaviours children should not be involved with, evem though it is just acting young viewers will not understand this and will go on to following the actions they see and could also become a violent child towards other people.

Drill music is a genre of music from all around the UK but mainly in London and the lyrics are based on gun crimes, knife crimes and any type of violence they have committed to show off how big they think they are, this is being banned because of children being mislead by wrong role models in life and looking up to the wrong people.

Essay

Genre

The product I have chosen is the early Spider-Man from 2002. This is a film about a boy that gets bit by a spider and gets all the senses and abilities that a spider would have, being able to climb walls and shoot webs, he uses this to his advantage and captures villains from around New York City however all the police think he is a bad guy at the starts, he also finds a girl that falls in love with him but the girl also knows Spider-Man for himself and doesn't actually know he his the man behind the mask

The audience for this product would be members that were interested in the original comics and other members that would be interested in the trailers released. Ages 8+ or even younger and then upwards as Spider-Man were originally comics and the audiences that used to read them will probably want to go and see the movie with their friends and families. The audience can be comic lovers, families that want to spend time together, hero movie lovers and kids that look up to super heroes for that matter, kids love to see people save the day and would even look up to doing it themselves if it were real life and not just a movie.
